Summer Camp

About

JRAD hosts an annual summer camp for students entering grades 4th to 8th to learn more about the world of Model UN and public speaking.

Students will plan, discuss, and speak as a group to unlock their voices and boost their confidence as they enter the real world.

Each grade has specialized lectures and activities created by volunteer instructors every year. Our instructors are experienced high school students who have participated in many conferences and won various awards.

Camp Schedule Outline

Students will arrive at camp and go into their respective classrooms. They will learn and engage in lessons until lunch time at noon. Afterwards, students are allowed outside before returning to classes in the afternoon. A snack break will take place later, and then classes resume until dismissal.

Our Emphasize on Accessibility

Our mission is to allow all students the opportunity to enter the world of Model UN. The five-day camp will provide lunch, snacks, and paper materials for all students at a base price. We choose to keep prices as low as possible so that way as many students can enroll as possible.

For more information on pricing, see Next Year Camp Info.

“The instructors at JRAD helped me go from reading a script with my head down to creating a speech on the spot. I’ll never forget the community and classes that I was a part of.”

Advi Krishna Renjith, 8th grade (2025)

100+ Students

2026 Camp

At JRAD’s 2026 Camp, over 100 students across the ages of 8 to 14 spent a week of their summer vacation learning at global politics, critical thinking, and public speaking skills.

Specifically, our 4th and 5th graders solved crises in the Richmond and Virginia areas, working together to come up with creative solutions to daunting problems. Utilizing their public speaking skills, students also competed in Shark Tank simulations, riveting debates, and more.

Our 6th grade and Beginner students embarked on their “Model UN training arcs”, utilizing personalized feedback from our team of instructors to improve their debating and collaboration skills.

Meanwhile, our Intermediate students took a deep dive into all sides of global history, spanning from WWI to the Soviet Union. Crossing oceans and tearing down obstacles, these students left our camp as Model UN and history wizards.

Finally, our Advanced students uncovered the “backrooms” of Model UN, learning how to craft their crisis arcs to perfection. Through a series of mock committees, alongside our Intermediate students, this group of talented delegates tested their limits in terms of research, critical thinking, and global politics overall. From tackling questions of “How the United States became the global superpower it is today?” to topics like the Blood Diamonds, these students demonstrated their skills across the board.
